The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) is an American LGBTQ+ rights non-profit, focussing on advocacy and political lobbying.
Established in 1980, the organisation was primarily a fund for supporting pro-fairness congressional candidates. The organisation has evolved and grown to become one of the largest and most politically engaged voting blocs in the US. The HRC supports LGBTQ individuals, allies, and institutions with resources and support to lobby decision makers from the local to federal level.
How You Can Help
Time: Various
Take part in lobbying in seconds by becoming a Community Co-Sponsor, signing a petition encouraging the US Senate to pass the Equality Act into law. You can also use the resources on the site to call or email your Members of Congress.
You can also volunteer, virtually or physically, with the HRC in your area, and join in with events such as canvassing and phone banking. You can also become a Community Organiser, using the HRC app to share content and engage in conversations with your friends and family about the cause.
If you are an LGBTQ+ American willing to share a personal experience of discrimination, you can submit it here via the HRC website to help raise awareness of the need for change. You can also use the HRC resources to find tools to advance LGBTQ+ rights in your area.
Cost: Various
Become a member of the HRC from $35 per year ($20 for students), or a partner by giving a monthly donation of $10+. You can also make a one-off donation of an amount of your choice.
Other ways to give include gifting membership to others, gifts in memory, flying an HRC flag in honour of a loved one or friend, or other fundraising.
You can also visit the HRC shop to browse clothing, accessories, and home and office wear.
